On Monday, Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari confirmed that great efforts had been made to secure the Iraqi border, while noting that this had a positive impact in the fight against drugs.
A statement from the ministry received by “Al-Rasheed” stated, “Al-Shammari, accompanied by the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, visited the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control Affairs, and the Director-General of Narcotics Control provided a detailed explanation of the most important duties and achievements achieved to combat this scourge.”
He added, “The Minister praised the support provided by the wise authority, as well as the continuous support from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for the work of the Ministry of Interior in combating drugs, praising at the same time the work of this directorate in arresting those wanted in drug cases, indicating that there are great efforts made to Securing the Iraqi borders, which had a positive impact on this important file, praising also the high coordination and fruitful cooperation with neighboring countries that had joint work through the exchange of information and the extradition of wanted persons.”
The statement added, “The Minister thanked and appreciated the work of the Narcotics Control Directorate and all those who support the work of the Ministry of Interior in maintaining security and arresting drug dealers and promoters, noting that the Narcotics Control Directorate has a large and prominent role in the Middle East region at the level of work in combating drugs.” .
He continued, that the Chairman of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Karim Aliwi Al-Mohammadawi, extended his thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Interior, indicating that there is follow-up and procedures achieved by this directorate, whose work is supervised by the Minister, stressing that the construction of forced asylums contributed to saving many victims, appreciating the distinguished work of all. Drug control officers and personnel, describing them as patriots, especially since they are making great efforts to save society from this scourge, which is no less dangerous than terrorism because of the great danger it poses to the family and society.”
The statement explained, “At the conclusion of the visit, the members of the House of Representatives extended thanks and appreciation to the Minister and the Directorate for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances for their role in enforcing the law and combating these poisons.”
