The US State Department announced that it is holding talks with the Palestinian National Authority about managing the Gaza Strip in the post-war period.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said during a press conference on Thursday that “one of the principles is that the Palestinian Authority must administer the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.”
He continued: “Therefore, we are holding talks with partner countries in the region and with the Palestinian Authority on how to achieve this.”
The spokesman indicated, “There are various proposals under discussion. I will not reveal their details,” adding: “But we are cooperating with the Palestinian Authority and the countries of the region alike on all issues related to the post-conflict period that may face the Gaza Strip.”
Politico newspaper had previously reported that the US administration is considering various options for managing matters in the Gaza Strip after the end of the Israeli military operation, including establishing a multinational force or a Palestinian peace mission.
According to the newspaper, consideration of potential options may take weeks or months before Washington and its partners agree to any plan for the Gaza Strip.
