Baghdad / Nina The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that water levels in rivers and reservoir control systems have risen as a result of heavy rains during the past three days, the heaviest of which was in the regions of northern and eastern Iraq, which led to an increase in the tributaries of the Tigris River, “the upper and lower Zabin, and the Great and Diyala rivers.”
The Ministry indicated, in a press statement, that there is a large storage vacuum that can accommodate large quantities of water imports, in addition to benefiting from them by reviving the marshes, which is consistent with the requirements of UNESCO to keep them on the World Heritage List, by releasing quantities of water to the south of the Samarra Dam and from there to the River. “Tigris.”
She added, “Some areas of the country on the eastern side witnessed floods, which led to a rise in water levels in rivers, dams and reservoirs such as the Mosul, Dokan, Darbandikhan, Al-Azim and Hamrin dams, which will have a clear impact by increasing the country’s water reserves to secure the needs for the upcoming summer season.”
While the Ministry warned residents and those trespassing on the Tigris River Basin, floating bridges and water pipes within the basin, to take caution and caution until water discharges return to their normal status by mobilizing the efforts of the Ministry’s personnel responsible for gradually passing the flood wave by reducing the damage and ensuring the management of the incoming water in a correct scientific manner in the interest of the citizens and residents of the southern marshes.
