Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that Russia continues to insist on the urgent implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on the ceasefire in Gaza.
Zakharova pointed out that the American statements in the UN Security Council regarding disapproval of some provisions of the resolution are devastating.
Zakharova told reporters: “Russia continues to insist on the necessity of urgent implementation of Security Council resolutions, while we note the destructive nature of the statements of American representatives in the Security Council, who said that they do not agree with some provisions of the resolution, which they claim has no legal force. This is a kind of legal obscurantism.” “.
Zakharova added: “This is the rules-based global order, when binding decisions are called invalid and without legal force, despite the fact that America itself voted for them.”
On March 25, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan.
Mozambique’s representative to the United Nations presented the draft resolution on behalf of all elected members of the Security Council, stressing that the draft resolution aims to end the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have been continuing since October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian Hamas movement, which controls the Strip, announced the start of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood.” Thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza at Israel, and its forces stormed Israeli towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip, causing the death of about 1,200 Israelis, the majority of whom were settlers, in addition to the capture of about 250 others.
