Stephen Curry’s 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds left gave the Golden State Warriors a 113-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night for their sixth win in seven games.
With the Warriors trailing 112-110 with 3.3 seconds left, Curry caught an inbounds pass from Brandin Podziemski, turned around and hit a 33-foot 3-pointer. It was his ninth three-pointer of the night. He scored 30 points.
Devin Booker scored 32 points and Kevin Durant scored 24 points for the Suns. After Curry hit a three-pointer, the Suns had two chances, but Booker fouled under the basket. For the first time, Durant was unable to shoot.
The Golden State Warriors avoided being swept by the Suns in the season series and are back at .500 for the first time since December 25th. The Warriors are also back in the playoff picture and are the 10th seed in the Western Conference ahead of Monday night’s game against the Jazz, ahead of an idle Utah team.
The two teams went back and forth at critical moments, but neither team opened up much of a gap. The Warriors entered the fourth quarter with an 84-82 lead. With 35 seconds left in the game, Booker turned around and made a jumper to help the Suns lead 112-110.
Jonathan Kuminga added 21 points for the Golden State Warriors. Draymond Green had 15 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds.
In the second quarter, the Golden State Warriors led 47-40, and the Suns went on a 12-0 run. Durant’s three-pointer helped the Suns take the lead. The Warriors responded with a small climax from Kuminga. At halftime, Kuminga led the Golden State Warriors by 13 points and entered the intermission with a 59-58 lead.
Royce O’Neal, acquired at the trade deadline, made his debut with the Suns and scored three points. David Roddy, another player acquired by Phoenix at the deadline, did not play.
Gary Payton is back with the Warriors after missing the past 16 games with a strained left hamstring. He scored 11 points.
Green has not committed a technical foul since returning from an indefinite suspension in January, but he received one while contesting a foul after a layup in the third quarter.
Green also exchanged words and taunts with Suns center Jusuf Nurkic throughout the game. On December 12, Suns center Jusuf Nurkic was hit in the face by Green, causing Green to stop. race.
