Baghdad/Nina/The voting process for the general elections has begun in Pakistan, with millions of voters heading to the polls to cast their votes in legislative and regional elections.
Pakistani media reported that voting began on Thursday morning, and that the voting process would continue without interruption until five in the evening.
Voters went to the polling stations to cast their votes to elect members of the National Assembly, or the House of Representatives in the country’s parliament, which will form a new government for the next five years.
Voting for the four regional councils takes place on the same day.
According to the Election Commission, more than 128 million Pakistanis, or more than half of the country’s total population, are eligible to vote in the general elections.
The committee announced that more than 5,000 candidates will compete for 265 general seats in the National Assembly, and more than 12,000 candidates will compete for 590 general seats for provincial councils in the four provinces, which include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh./End 2
