French state agencies were subjected to unprecedented cyber attacks yesterday and today, claimed by Russian loyalists.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s office said on Monday that several French government bodies had been subjected to cyberattacks with “unprecedented intensity,” but insisted that the government had been able to contain the impact.
Attal’s office added that “several ministerial facilities were targeted” as of Sunday “using familiar technical means but with unprecedented intensity,” without providing further details about the targets, according to what was reported by the “France24” website in English.
In parallel, a security source explained to Agence France-Presse that the attacks “are not currently attributed to Russia,” which is the obvious suspect to many given Paris’ support for Kiev since the invasion of Ukraine.
The latest cyberattack to hit France comes after a warning from the Prime Minister’s defense adviser last week that the Paris Olympics and this summer’s European Parliament elections could be “important targets.”
