Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie WHO ziet de infectieziekte mpox niet langer als een internationale bedreiging voor de gezondheid. De WHO baseert die keuze op het afnemende aantal besmettingen en sterfgevallen in met name de getroffen gebieden en op betere kennis van de overdraagbaarheid van de ziekte.
