Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence throws a hard hit from linebacker Aziz Alshahir as Lawrence slides during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Get kicked off the field. The Jaguars later sidelined Lawrence with a concussion.
After the hit, Jaguars tight end Evan Engram ran toward Al Shayer and pushed him while Lawrence remained on the ground. As medical staff tended to Lawrence, a scuffle broke out between Jaguars and Texans players.
The referees ejected Al Shayer and Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones from the game for unnecessary roughness, and Ingram received a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. Coaches and officials had to escort Alshair off the field as he continued to argue with Jaguars players, especially offensive lineman Brandon Scherff.
As Alshair walked off the field, he spoke with Jaguars fans, who were seen throwing objects and trash at the 27-year-old linebacker.

“(That hit) doesn’t represent us,” Texans coach DeMeco Reigns told Fox Sports at halftime.
When asked to clarify the circumstances surrounding Alshair and Jones’ ejections, referee Rand Clark said Alshair’s penalty was an illegal hit on Lawrence and Jones because he came off the bench and punched a player. . Clark said Ingram was not ejected because his pushing “was not disqualifying, but it was unnecessarily rough conduct.”
Engram said he pushed Alshair because his instinct was to step up for the quarterback after seeing Lawrence get hit.
“It was a dirty hit,” Ingram said. “These hits are always questioned. … I saw (Lawrence) slide, and then I saw the hit. Honestly, (instinct) took over. I just knew it was wrong. It was just a dirty play. game, but you have to stand up for your players.

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud said, “Man, it’s hard to see Trev go out like that,” but defended Alshair. “Aziz, I don’t think that was his intention. … I know he had no intention of doing that. He has to be more careful.
Sunday was Lawrence’s first game since Week 9 as he returns from a shoulder injury. Before the concussion, Lawrence was 4-of-10 passing for 41 yards and an interception. Backup quarterback Mac Jones took over for Lawrence and went 20-of-32 for 235 yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence took to Twitter Sunday night to thank fans for their support.

The Texans (8-5) defeated the Jaguars (2-10) 23-20. After the game, Lawrence and his wife Marissa walked out of the locker room and headed for the players’ exit.
Al-Shahir was ejected less than three months after being fined $11,817 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. In Week 2, Alshajer hit Caleb Williams near the sideline and the Bears quarterback ran out of bounds. After the fight, Alshahir threw a punch.
The NFL also punished Alshair, and later fined him $11,255, for last week’s late hit on Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard, who was The player hits the ball out of bounds.
Lawrence, 25, is in his fourth season in Jacksonville after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2021. Scored 11 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. Lawrence played at least 16 games in each of his first three seasons.
