Baghdad/Nina/ The newspapers published today, Sunday, paid attention to the session of the House of Representatives to elect its president, the celebration of Iraqi Martyr’s Day, and the anniversary of the assassination of Mr. Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim.
Al-Zawraa newspaper, which is published by the Journalists Syndicate, said that the House of Representatives failed to hold the second round of the session to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives, after the first round ended with Shaalan Al-Karim winning with 152 votes.
The Media Department of the House of Representatives stated in a statement that “the House of Representatives has resumed its session to elect the Speaker of the House,” indicating that “the number of attendees is 232 deputies.”
She added, “The House of Representatives voted to add an item to its agenda,” noting that “the House of Representatives decided to adjourn its session.”
Yesterday, Saturday, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, opened the work of Session No. (1) of the fifth electoral session of the third legislative year of the first legislative term, in the presence of 260 deputies.
Al-Mandalawi also announced the opening of nominations for the position of Speaker of Parliament.

The secret ballot to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives began in the first round, with five candidates competing.

She pointed out that “the results of the candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives in the first round are:

– Representative Shaalan Al-Karim (152 votes)

Earlier, the Federal Court decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
The Federal Court stated in a statement: It “considered the case No. 9/Federal/2023.”
She added that she “decided, in accordance with the ruling issued therein, to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rekan Al-Halbousi, and to terminate the membership of Representative Laith Mustafa Hamoud Al-Dulaimi, as of the date of issuance of the ruling on 11/14/2023, a final decision that is binding on all authorities.”
The president of the court, Jassim Al-Amiri, said earlier, “The Federal Court’s recent decision, which includes terminating the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi, and the membership of Representative Laith Mustafa Hamoud Al-Dulaimi, has become binding on all authorities, in accordance with what is stated in Article 94 of the Constitution.”
He added, “This decision is not subject to any means of legal appeal,” noting that “the Federal Court is competent to consider such various cases in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution.”

The President of the Republic stressed that “the political process requires everyone’s efforts to advance the construction process and draw up the strategic horizon,” noting that “Iraq has succeeded in developing its relations with neighboring countries, countries of the region and the world,” and stressed that “Iraq adopts a foreign policy based on taking into account the principles of sovereignty, stability, and non-interference.” In internal affairs.
For his part, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani described the crime of targeting Mr. Al-Hakim as “an important turning point in the confrontation between terrorism and the Iraqi people,” recalling the martyr “and the living school he represented for the nation’s concepts, his struggle and the history of his jihad against dictatorship and its successor, terrorism.”
He added in his speech on the occasion, “We continued to embody the goal for which the Mujahideen gave themselves, which is the Iraqi human being, and we were determined to follow the path of reconstruction and reform and raise the standard of living and service for citizens throughout Iraq.”
He continued, “The blood of the nation’s martyrs was shed without distinction for the sake of all of Iraq. We raise high the memory of the martyrs, by preserving the security and stability that was achieved, which would not have been possible without their sacrifices, and those sacrifices require responsible action from us to overcome the complex stage and difficult circumstances that the region is going through.” .
Al-Sudani continued, “The experience of the mujahideen and martyrs has taught us the importance of solidarity regarding crucial issues, and the government has begun implementing its program, which includes a vision for the future of a united, strong, independent, stable, and prosperous Iraq.”
He said that “we followed the path of radical reforms that address long-term needs and aimed to confront the waste of public money, and we kept in mind the infrastructure, in the economy, services, and financial and banking infrastructure, to move towards development and create opportunities for current and future generations.”
Al-Zaman newspaper followed the visit of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to Baghdad and said that the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed resolving the files and issues between Baghdad and Erbil in accordance with the constitution.

Barzani said during the occasion of Iraqi Martyr’s Day yesterday, “The attack on diplomatic missions, coalition forces, and the Peshmerga undermines the work of the government, places obstacles in its path and programs, and results in many multi-faceted complications in Iraq.”
He added, “These attacks have caused a lot of damage to the security and lives of the citizens of the region, and have caused widespread anxiety and unrest, and have also given ISIS the opportunity to intensify their attacks.”
He pointed out that (the coalition forces came at the invitation of the Iraqi government for the purpose of confronting ISIS, and the opportunity should be provided for dialogue with them according to a joint plan and on a safe, problem-free basis with the aim of agreeing on the future of cooperation between the coalition forces and Iraq)./ End
