Baghdad/Nina/ Newspapers published today, Tuesday, focused on projects to relieve traffic congestion in the capital, Baghdad, and the water issue with Turkey.
Al-Zawraa newspaper, which is published by the Journalists Syndicate, quoted the spokesman for the government media team, Haider Majeed, as saying that projects to relieve traffic congestion in the capital, Baghdad, are one of the most important projects that have a priority in the government program and receive exceptional attention from the Prime Minister, and there is periodic follow-up regarding the stages. Work, completion rates, and direct supervision by the Minister of Construction and Housing, the Department of Roads and Bridges, and a number of Ministry of Construction and Housing companies that are making an exceptional effort in these projects, which number 15 so far, spread throughout the capital, Baghdad.
He added that the purpose of these projects is to address the phenomenon of traffic congestion that has existed in the capital for many years, stressing that the first project that was opened was the Faiq Hassan Bridge located at the Fine Arts intersection, which was completed in half the scheduled period, as the scheduled period was 6 months, but it was completed within a period of 3 months.
He continued: There is an exceptional effort to work in three phases for projects to remove bottlenecks, and they are now progressing at a high pace, indicating that the completion rates vary from one project to another, but there is noticeable progress in the work.
He pointed out that the Cordoba and Aden Square intersection projects are witnessing remarkable progress and may soon be opened. There is also a project in the Army Canal in the east of the canal, noting that there are other projects that will include the capital, Baghdad. One of the projects will have its foundation stone laid soon.
He explained that there are bridge projects in a number of governorates, including Basra Governorate. The local government is also working in coordination with the federal government to implement a number of projects, as there are projects supervised by the Ministry of Construction and Housing, as well as projects affiliated with the development of regions in the governorates, pointing out that there are stalled and lagging bridges. It has been out of work for years, and the government has placed it among its priorities and in the plan of the Ministry of Construction and Housing for the purpose of starting it, as well as the rest of the projects supervised by the service and engineering effort, whether in Baghdad or a number of governorates.
Earlier, the Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa, explained the reason for not launching projects to relieve traffic congestion all at once, while noting that the metro project will serve 80 percent of the capital’s areas.
Moussa said in a press statement: “Our meetings are continuing with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities, and coordination is continuing regarding packages to relieve traffic congestion,” indicating that “initially, 64 basic projects were approved for projects to relieve traffic congestion, as the first package was launched according to priorities and need.”
He added, “The first priority was for 14 projects that were launched, and there are other projects that will be added after the completion of the project, such as the Faiq Hassan Bridge that was implemented, but the Al-Sarrafiya Bridge intersection after it will be implemented later.”
He stressed that “it is possible to launch all projects at the same time, but the issue of opening these projects in more than one place will confuse traffic in the capital, Baghdad,” pointing out that “work is being done according to a specific vision to not confuse the traffic scene inside the capital while accelerating the completion of these important projects.” “.
Regarding the Baghdad Metro, Musa confirmed that “the Baghdad Metro project witnessed the signing of the contract with the government advisor for the purpose of selecting the investment companies that will compete for the metro project,” noting that “there is a new vision for the government and a high seriousness in implementing the Baghdad Metro project by declaring it as an investment opportunity.”
He stated, “This is the first time that such a project has been announced as an investment opportunity to attract foreign investments to implement it according to a previously announced vision that merged the Baghdad Metro, the Sky Train, and previous projects to come up with a project that serves more than 80% of the capital’s territory.”
Al-Sabah newspaper paid attention to the water issue with Turkey and said that the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed, during his meeting yesterday, Monday, with the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Ali Riza Konai, “the importance of strengthening cooperation and joint work with regard to the security, economic and commercial fields, and the necessity of coordination in the file.” Water to ensure a fair share for Iraq that meets its needs.”

Al-Zaman newspaper focused on establishing a solar energy station with a capacity of one thousand megawatts in Najaf Governorate, implemented by a Saudi company.
She said that Iraq and Saudi Arabia are close to finalizing the contract to establish a solar energy station with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts in Najaf Governorate.
