Baghdad/NinaThe US State Department denied reports of the evacuation of its embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
A US State Department spokesman said in a press statement: “The safety of our American employees is of utmost importance.”
He explained: “On October 20, the State Department ordered the departure of non-essential employees and their eligible family members from the United States Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil, due to increasing security threats against American employees and interests.”
He pointed out: “We did not later announce any amendments to our employment or security situation.”/End 7
