Follow-up – Al-Rashid
US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that the United States will begin airlifting relief supplies to Gaza, where residents face severe shortages of food, water and medicine.
Biden told reporters at the White House: “We will join our friends in providing air aid,” adding that the flow of aid to Gaza is not enough, “and we will do our best to deliver more of it.”
The American Wall Street Journal indicated that dropping relief supplies by air into Gaza is considered a remarkable development, because it reflects the recognition that current efforts to address the humanitarian crisis within the conflict zone were insufficient, and reflects pressure on President Biden to act.
The announcement comes one day after Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian civilians gathered to receive humanitarian aid on Al-Rashid Street in northwest Gaza, which US officials said indicated growing desperation inside Gaza.
It is noteworthy that the Jordanian Armed Forces carried out 3 airdrops of relief and food aid on Friday into the northern Gaza Strip.
The war in Gaza has entered its 147th day, as bombing continues in several areas of the Strip amid a famine that has become a reality, while international mediators race against time to reach a ceasefire before the month of Ramadan.
