Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the United States seeks to impose the fact that the Palestinians will not get any state, and instead, Washington will create a “beautiful picture” without changing the status quo.
Lavrov noted that the United States had taken over the tasks of “secret negotiating work,” and said: “It will lead [هذا العمل] Another illusion, and the Palestinians will not get any state. There will be a beautiful announcement, for example, that Palestine will be accepted as a member of the United Nations, but everything on the ground will remain exactly as it is. “A beautiful picture, but without changing the status quo.”
Lavrov pointed out again that it was the United States that stopped the activities of the “Quartet” of international mediators, which includes Russia, the European Union and the United Nations.
During a meeting with participants in the Palestinian meeting in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the establishment of the State of Palestine is the only way to bring lasting peace to the Middle East region.
Stressing that this path is fair to both parties and based on international law, which alone can lead to lasting peace in the region.
Russia is hosting a round of dialogue between Palestinian factions in a new effort to achieve progress in the Palestinian reconciliation file, which has been faltering for 17 years.
This may be the first time that the Palestinian factions have met since October 7, 2023, in the midst of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Negotiations between the Palestinian factions began in Moscow today, Thursday, with the aim of bringing views closer to ending the Palestinian division and restoring national unity on a basis agreed upon by all.
