Frank Rose, Deputy Director of the National Nuclear Security Agency in the United States, said that his country considers it necessary to maintain contacts with Russia related to arms control to reduce risks.
“We need to maintain lines of communication on arms control to reduce the risks,” Rose said at the Brookings Institution on Wednesday.
Rose added, “There is currently no such contact between Washington and Moscow, which causes great concern and regret for the American administration.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously stated that the resumption of the strategic dialogue between Russia and America cannot be viewed in isolation from the current situation with regard to international security and strategic stability.
Lavrov also stated earlier that diplomatic relations between Russia and the United States are at their weakest these days.
Lavrov said that resuming the dialogue on strategic security requires first removing the critical security contradictions caused by NATO’s expansion to the east, and that Moscow does not see opportunities for dialogue with Washington regarding strategic stability at the present time. To hold such a dialogue, the West must abandon its hostile rhetoric towards Russia.
