Fox News, citing a US military official, reported on Friday that the strikes in Syria represent the beginning of a long campaign to target Iranian proxies.
The channel quoted the American official as saying, “American military strikes have begun in Syria, as part of a response to the attack that killed 3 soldiers at an American base in Jordan.”
He added, “The strikes in Syria were from multiple platforms, and they represent the beginning of a long campaign to target pro-Iranian groups in the coming days.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported earlier today that an air strike targeted sites in the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The Observatory said on its website that “planes of unknown origin targeted sites in the areas of Al-Haydariyah and Al-Shibli in the Al-Mayadeen Desert in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.”
He added, “The air strike targeted 11 sites belonging to pro-Iranian groups on the Syrian-Iraqi border, resulting in six casualties, including three Iraqis.”
