Al-Awadi told Iraqi News and was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani’s current visit to Washington is one of the most important visits in the history of Iraqi-American relations, and aims to activate cooperation frameworks in all fields, and there are many provisions in the strategic framework agreement that have not been implemented.” Correctly since the agreement was signed in 2008.
He added, “Previous relations were limited to the security and military aspects, and now there is an effort to achieve a leap in the quality of bilateral relations, indicating that the visit aims to activate the strategic framework agreement with its political, economic, investment, banking, energy, climate, and remaining items that we can invest to expand cooperation frameworks.”
He continued, “The political file can be a gateway to cooperation in light of the state of stability that Iraq is currently experiencing, its effective role in the region, which is expanding day after day, and the presence of development and projects that Iraq is witnessing. All of these can be reflected in Iraq’s role.”
He pointed out that “the United States is a scientifically and technologically advanced country and possesses technologies that may not be available in other countries, and it is in our interest as Iraqis to invest in the capabilities of American companies in supporting investment and development in Iraq. Likewise, Iraq’s political interest is the main and first driver, and none of these basic interests will be neglected among others.” Iraq and the United States of America.
Al-Awadi pointed out that “the Prime Minister’s upcoming meeting with the American President will include important messages exchanged on a number of files, as each of them has viewpoints, and most of the files that could be raised have been agreed upon through subcommittees that anticipated the visit or have been coordinated around.” “I don’t think there will be any major intersections.”
He pointed out, “The important thing is whether we go towards strengthening these relations. The United States realistically wants us to move to more comprehensive and broader bilateral relations, and this desire also exists in Iraq.”
Regarding the economic and investment files, Al-Awadi said, “Iraqi stability and the guarantees provided by the Iraqi government through its ministry and institutions are an important factor that encourages investors who are concerned with the factors of security, stability, and economic feasibility. Also, the state that is looking to attract investment has obligations to provide stability, provide security, and provide a guarantee for the expected contracts and how to implement them and not.” “There will be problems in Iraq for investors and companies to carry out their work properly, and one of the most important items of the visit is to confirm the Iraqi readiness to provide a stable atmosphere that encourages investment.”
He stressed that “the American side does not mind that Iraq has a major interest in investing and supporting the sectors of industry, agriculture, education, and investing in technology to support projects, including energy projects.”
