The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the non-resident ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Iraq, Serge Dikchen, and the meeting witnessed discussion of relations between Iraq and Belgium, ways to strengthen them, and expand the partnership between “The two countries, and the necessity of continuing the momentum of bilateral consultations, as well as the importance of having a resident ambassador of Belgium in Iraq.”
Al-Sudani praised, according to the statement, “Belgium’s role in supporting Iraq in the field of combating terrorism through participation in the international coalition,” and also pointed to “the level of readiness and capability reached by the Iraqi armed forces, the end of the coalition’s mission in Iraq and the transition to bilateral relations with the participating countries.” “
He stated, “Iraq seeks to expand economic cooperation with Belgium, especially in the fields of clean energy, infrastructure, and water technologies, in addition to cooperation in combating corruption and recovering Iraqi funds and those wanted by the Iraqi judiciary, and signing a legal memorandum of understanding in these areas.”
The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation for the position of the Belgian government in its cooperation in handing over its citizens from Al-Hawl camp, and urged the rest of the European countries to follow the same path.
