Baghdad/ Nina/ The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met today, Tuesday, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the Secretary-General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, Yaqub Gorgis Yaqu, and his accompanying delegation, which included a number of heads and representatives of Christian parties in Iraq.
The President stressed, according to a presidential statement, “the importance of joint work between all national forces to promote peaceful coexistence among the components of Iraqi society, as it is a pillar and starting point for consolidating security and stability in the country, indicating that Christians have effective contributions to building the country and its progress in the cultural, political, and social fields.”
The President of the Republic praised “the history of struggle of Christians, alongside their brothers from other components, in confronting terrorism, stressing the necessity of uniting everyone’s efforts and harnessing them towards building state institutions and achieving citizenship and social justice.”
For his part, Yaqoub Korkis praised “the patriotic positions of the President of the Republic to promote the rights of Christians and other Iraqi components and secure a decent life for them.”/End H
