Baghdad / Nina / The President of the Republic, Abdel Latif Gamal Rashid, stressed the need to intensify efforts to end the issue of displaced persons and immigrants and ensure their return to their homes and cities.
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic stated: “The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today at Baghdad Palace, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Claudio Cordon, and the Special Assistant to the United Nations Representative, Jana.” Badi, and UNICEF representative Sandra Latoff.”
He added, “At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Republic conveyed to the Special Representative his congratulations to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the occasion of the New Year, and his wishes for good health and success in carrying out his humanitarian mission.”
According to the statement, the President of the Republic stressed the importance of strengthening and developing relations with the United Nations in a way that serves the Iraqi people in the humanitarian, social and service fields, noting that “the efforts made by the United Nations through international organizations are very important in consolidating peace in the world.”
For her part, Virginia Gamba affirmed the United Nations’ aspiration to enhance cooperation with Iraq in various fields through the agencies working in Iraq, and she also reviewed the work of the United Nations organization in Iraq, especially in the field of supporting children.
She expressed her “happiness for the good developments in Iraq on the security, humanitarian and social levels based on what she observed while performing her work duties in the country,” expressing her “readiness to provide assistance by holding training workshops, seminars and conferences for those interested in protecting children’s rights.”
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations praised the support and care that Iraq provides for children and its efforts to issue legislation to combat domestic violence and protect children./ End
