The United States announced on Sunday that the multilateral talks that took place in Paris led to an “understanding” on a possible agreement stipulating the release of Hamas hostages and a specific ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told CNN, “Representatives of Israel, the United States, Egypt and Qatar met in Paris and reached an understanding among the four countries on the basic features of a hostage agreement for a temporary ceasefire.
This comes as the Gaza Strip witnesses a bloody war for nearly 5 months that has left tens of thousands dead and wounded, and hundreds of thousands displaced within the Strip, while Israeli forces continue to bomb the Strip, and clashes continue on more than one axis.
The specter of a humanitarian catastrophe looms over the Gaza Strip, suffered by the residents of the Gaza Strip who were forced to flee south to the city of Rafah, in light of the lack of humanitarian aid and relief materials that Israel is hindering from reaching those in need.
