Today, Saturday, the National Security Service announced the arrest of 689 people accused of drug trafficking and drug promotion within a year.

The agency stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Over the course of an entire year, our heroic men in the National Security Service provided strenuous efforts and qualitative achievements in the field of combating drugs, according to precise intelligence work and with a high degree of efficiency.”
He added: “Wide security campaigns were carried out, which included dismantling local and international networks that trade in various types of drugs, which resulted in the arrest of (689) people accused of trafficking and promotion, in addition to the seizure of large quantities of narcotic substances.”
He stressed that “the war on drugs has not ended and will remain ongoing until this scourge is completely eliminated to protect our society from the clutches of addiction and anyone who tries to tamper with the nation’s security and stability.”
