The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the toll of drugs and psychotropic substances since the beginning of the year.

The Director General of the Department of Relations and Information at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “There are broad measures implemented by the Ministry to establish an international system to confront the drug threat through signed memorandums of understanding.”
He added, “The Ministry of Interior held a conference to combat drugs last year, 2023, and will hold another conference in the middle of this year, 2024, for international cooperation in confronting drugs,” noting that “drug trade is a cross-border crime and is a local and international trade.”
He pointed out that, “The Narcotics Control Directorate has achieved an increase in its seizure numbers and activities through international cooperation,” stressing, “More than 2 tons of narcotic substances and 10 tons of psychotropic substances have been seized since the beginning of this year until now.”
