Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani announced the addition of 360,000 barrels of refining capacity within a year of the government’s life.

Abdul Ghani stressed in a statement from the Ministry of Oil received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The Ministry is keen to maximize national production from the refining capacities of national refineries to reach self-sufficiency and then to gradually move to exporting its surplus.”
He praised “the achievements represented by the completion of the isomerization unit for gasoline production in the South Refineries Company with a capacity of (1,300) cubic meters per day, and the completion of the isomerization unit for gasoline production in the Central Refineries Company with a capacity of (750) cubic meters per day,” noting that “this contributes to reducing the import of gasoline by an amount It reaches more than (2000) cubic meters.
He added, “The FCC project at the South Refineries Company, which is expected to begin production in the middle of next year with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, is one of the most promising projects that will contribute to stopping the import of high-octane gasoline.”
He stated that “this refinery converts oil waste into white products according to European specifications (Euro 5),” noting that “the Ministry has achieved a qualitative breakthrough by adding (360) thousand barrels of refining capacity within a year of the government’s life, through the projects of the Northern Refinery with a capacity of (150).” (One thousand barrels, Karbala refinery with a capacity of 140 thousand barrels, and the fourth refining unit in the South Refineries with a capacity of 70 thousand barrels per day.)
