Today, Thursday, Defense Minister Thabet Al-Abbasi discussed with the US Congress delegation the work of the Supreme Military Committee to end the international coalition’s mission in Iraq.
A statement from the Ministry of Defense, received by Al-Rasheed, stated that “Al-Abbasi received a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the US Congress and the official in charge of implementing foreign military grants and aid programs (FMF – FMS), Senator Christopher Coons, the US Ambassador to Iraq, Elena Romanowski, and the US military attaché, Colonel “Ellen Bieber and their accompanying delegation.”
He added, “During the meeting, the work of the Supreme Military Committee was discussed to end the international coalition’s mission in Iraq according to a specific timetable and move to the stage of bilateral military relations between Iraq and the United States. Developments in the security situation in the region were also discussed.”
The statement noted, “The meeting witnessed the presence of a number of senior leaders and officers in the Ministry of Defense.”
