Baghdad/NinaThe General Union of Arab Journalists condemned, in the strongest terms, the occupation aircraft’s bombing of the city of Rafah and the injury of our colleagues Ismail Abu Omar and Ahmed Matar as a result of this bombing.
The head of the Union of Arab Journalists, Moayad Al-Lami, said in a statement that the Union strongly condemns the barbaric attacks by the Zionist occupation forces, which resulted in the injury of our colleagues Ismail Abu Omar, Al Jazeera’s correspondent, and photojournalist Ahmed Matar, noting that, according to preliminary information, colleague Ismail Abu Omar’s foot was amputated. Colleague Ahmed Matar’s hand injury was diagnosed as serious, and they were transferred to the European Hospital.
Al-Lami added that the Zionist occupation forces have been targeting journalists since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, and since the seventh of last October, 120 journalists have been martyred. Stressing that these brutal attacks by the Zionist occupation forces have been condemned by all international organizations and the United Nations, as they are completely inconsistent with international law and human rights.
Al-Lami indicated, according to the statement, that the General Union of Arab Journalists affirms its full solidarity with Palestinian journalists and the heroic Palestinian people, and calls on all international organizations, human rights organizations and the United Nations to condemn these unjustified crimes and take the necessary measures to protect Palestinian journalists and the defenseless Palestinian people.
Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Abu Omar and fellow photographer Ahmed Matar were seriously injured as a result of an Israeli drone attack in the Mirage area, north of the city of Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip.
Yesterday afternoon, Al Jazeera reported that an Israeli drone fired at least one missile towards the two colleagues in direct targeting, which immediately led to the amputation of colleague Ismail Abu Omar’s right leg and the severe injury of his left leg. He also sustained serious injuries throughout his body as a result of fragments of the missile.
She added that photographer Ahmed Matar was seriously injured in one of his hands, as well as wounds throughout the rest of his body. They were transported by eyewitnesses to a field hospital in the area for first aid, before ambulances arrived and transported them to the European Hospital.
She indicated that the two colleagues were admitted to the operating room to undergo urgent and emergency surgeries./End
