A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 was preparing to take off from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta over the weekend when its front wheel fell off and rolled off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
According to the FAA’s preliminary notification, none of the 184 passengers or six crew members on board were injured in the incident.
According to the report, the plane was queuing up for takeoff when “the front wheel came off and rolled down the hillside.”
The plane was scheduled to fly to Bogotá, Colombia, and Delta Air Lines said passengers had been placed on an alternative flight, according to a report in The New York Times reported late Tuesday.
Boeing declined to comment and referred questions to the airline, the newspaper said. The FAA told the newspaper it was continuing to investigate the incident.
Boeing was not immediately available for comment to Reuters outside normal business hours.
Boeing has been under scrutiny from federal regulators after a door on a Boeing 737-900ER aircraft burst open mid-flight. No one was seriously injured, but the FAA grounded 171 MAX 9 aircraft and recommended inspections and remedial work.
