Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, confirmed Baghdad’s readiness to host meetings of the liaison committee emanating from the Arab League for Syria.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received today, Tuesday, his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Al-Miqdad, during his visit to Cairo to participate in the meeting of the regular session (161) of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.”
He added, “At the beginning of the meeting, the deteriorating situation in Gaza was discussed. The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop and strengthen them in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples, in addition to a number of regional and international files of common interest. The topics presented on the agenda of the Arab Summit in its session were reviewed and discussed.” The (33) tournament will be hosted by Bahrain.
The minister stressed, according to the statement, “the necessity of taking a joint and consistent Arab position to support the Palestinian people and obtain their legitimate rights,” stressing that “Palestine is the central issue for the Arabs.”
The minister also indicated “the necessity of holding a meeting of the contact committee emanating from the Arab League for Syria and the necessity of holding its meeting in the near future,” expressing “Baghdad’s readiness to host the committee.”
