Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Shakhwan Abdullah, stressed today, Sunday, the necessity of preserving the democratic experience and protecting constitutional gains.
Abdullah said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Today we remember, with great pain, the passage of (36) years since the infamous Anfal operations that began in 1988 and claimed the lives of more than (182) thousand children, women, youth and elderly of the people of Kurdistan at the hands of The buried Baath, in addition to carrying out displacement campaigns and forced deportation of Kurdish villages and cities, and the use of internationally banned chemical weapons and genocide against the Kurds because of their ethnic and national affiliation.”
He called for “the need to compensate the families of the victims of the Anfal operations financially and morally,” stressing “the necessity of preserving the democratic experience, protecting constitutional gains, continuing understandings and dialogues between political forces to overcome crises and address problems, and supporting efforts and endeavors aimed at enhancing security and stability in the country.”
