Baghdad / Nina/ Republican Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina attacked President Joe Biden after the killing of 3 American soldiers on the Jordanian-Syrian border.
Lindsey Graham said the administration’s deterrence policy had “failed miserably” and called for strikes on targets inside Iran.
Graham added in a statement on Sunday: “The Biden administration can eliminate all of Iran’s proxies as it pleases, but that will not deter Iran.”
The senator said: “When the Biden administration says ‘don’t do it’, the Iranians ‘do it’. The Biden administration’s rhetoric falls on deaf ears in Iran.”
The Republican senator continued: “I call on the Biden administration to strike targets of importance inside Iran, not only in retaliation for the killing of our soldiers, but as a deterrent against any future aggression.”
For his part, US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said: “We are saddened by the loss of three Americans in Jordan. We are praying for their families and for the other 25 service members who were injured.”
He added, “America must send a crystal clear message to all parts of the world that attacks on our forces will not be tolerated.”
The US Central Command announced that 3 soldiers were killed and 25 others were injured in a drone attack targeting a base in northeastern Jordan, and the Pentagon said that what the US forces were exposed to in Jordan was a dangerous escalation.
The White House reported that Secretary of Defense Austin, National Security Advisor Sullivan, and Deputy National Security Advisor briefed Biden this morning on the details of the attack against US service members in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border.
The Jordanian government denied that the attack took place on the Kingdom’s territory, confirming that the Al-Tanf base in Syria was targeted near the Jordanian-Syrian-Iraqi border./End 9
