The Super Bowl takes place tonight, Sunday, and if you’re like millions of people around the world, you’re probably wondering: when can I watch it and how?
But is that all you really need to know? How about the halftime show, Taylor Swift sightings? How much does it cost to place a small ad during a game? Continue reading for all the answers…
Who’s playing in the Super Bowl?
This year’s Super Bowl – or Super Bowl 58 (or Super Bowl 58 if you’re not a Roman Legionnaire) – will be between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
The Chiefs are the closest thing to a dynasty in the NFL right now: Thanks in large part to their outstanding quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they’ve reached the Super Bowl in four of the past five seasons.
If they win on Sunday, they will be crowned champions on three of those occasions. Their rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, were equally dominant in the 1980s: They won four Super Bowls but haven’t won since the 1994 season.
When do the 49ers and Chiefs kick off?
Kick-off time is 3.30pm local time, 6.30pm on the US East Coast, 11.30pm in the UK and 10.30am on Monday in Sydney.
Where can I watch or stream?
Well, you can watch it live at the stadium, although tickets are already sold out and the cheapest tickets on resale sites start at about $5,500.
CBS, the main broadcaster in the U.S. this year, will also air the game on children’s channel Nickelodeon (with lots of slime and TikTok dancing (which is actually a lot better than it sounds)) and Spanish-language network Univision .
In the UK, the game will be shown on ITV1 and Sky Sports, and in Australia you can watch it on Seven Network.
Where will it be played?
Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, who failed to make the playoffs and last won a Super Bowl in the 1983 season while playing in Los Angeles. But that’s normal: Only two teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams, have won Super Bowls in their own stadiums.
Are people happy with Las Vegas as a venue?
For years, the NFL and other leagues shunned Las Vegas because of its association with gambling. But that changed as sports betting became legal and accepted in much of the United States. So could Sin City be a fun place to play and provide an excuse for days-long parties? Yes! Has NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell warned players and coaches not to bet on games? Of course! Given that the NFL and many of its broadcast partners have recently sold their souls to the big gambling industry, and that a record number of Americans are betting on this year’s games, is the United States a suitable host city? really!
How is it that this game is a deep state plan to strip Donald Trump of his presidency?
Well, if you live within 98 billion miles of Earth, you’ve probably heard that Taylor Swift is dating one of the Chiefs’ star players, Travis Kelce .
In the liberal media, this prompted a thousand thoughts about whether this would attract young women to football (millions of whom already love it!), and the Chiefs’ inverted Cover 2 defense on modern masculinity What impact does the status of (a lot of!). America right? Call boy.
Let’s turn our attention to Jack Lombardi, a right-wing influencer who unsuccessfully ran for the 2022 Republican congressional candidate and is a fan of Swift’s previous Democratic support and Kelsey’s previous appearance Upset over coronavirus vaccine ads.
“I’ve never been more convinced that the Super Bowl is rigged,” Lombardi wrote on After the Chiefs beat the Ravens to get to the big game. “Taylor took all the unnecessary and unwelcome coverage during the game. KC’s trip to the Super Bowl — totally scripted. Next up…Travis and Taylor attended the Super Bowl together and looked happy and in love. Then KC won. And then later announced that he would support Biden. “
So there you have it: Put your money on the Chiefs winning and on Biden handily winning the presidential election. However, only one of these results is indisputable.
Taylor Swift arrives in Vegas from Tokyo — right?
Taylor Swift is here After wrapping up the last of four shows in Japan on Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium, hop on a private jet at Haneda Airport, cross nine time zones and the international date line, and then make a quick departure from Los Angeles after landing on Saturday afternoon.
Who are the players to watch?
Mahomes is perhaps the most talented player the NFL has ever seen, and he’s always one to keep an eye on because of his great arm, football intelligence and the fact that he sounds like Kermit the Frog when he’s calling the shots. But this has been a relatively down year for Mahomes, as the Chiefs have chosen to surround him on offense with the ever-reliable Kelce and a few of the guys they hang out around the stadium before games.
On the other hand, their defense is excellent, boasts stars like Jarius Snead and Chris Jones, and stifled the Ravens’ high-octane offense in last month’s AFC Championship Game. The San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback was Brock Purdy, a player few expected to start in the NFL, let alone make it to the Super Bowl. They have a genius-level head coach in Kyle Shanahan and have great players in Deebo Samuel, Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey and Fred Warner. That being said, they were extremely lucky to beat the Detroit Lions in their last game.
Sure, but a 30-second ad will cost you about $7 million. You’ll turn a lot of heads, though: last year’s game averaged more than 115 million viewers across all platforms in the U.S. alone.
That would be R&B legend Usher, who must be a little annoyed that he’s the second most anticipated pop star in this year’s contest. Country music star Reba McEntire will sing the national anthem.
How much prize does the winner get?
Winning players will each receive $164,000, and losing players will receive about half that amount. Not bad for a few (very painful) hours of work, but probably not much for Mahomes and Bosa, who are making $59.4 million and $51 million respectively this season (Pudi has to rely on Living on $870,000, several million dollars below the median income in 2007) in parts of San Francisco).
Who will win?
It’s a pretty close matchup: the 49ers have the most talented players on their roster, and the Chiefs have the best player (in the NFL) in Mahomes. You can make a strong case for each team, but the Chiefs’ defense combined with Mahomes’ ability to do otherworldly things when needed gives them a slight edge.
