Sunrisers Hyderabad set a new record for the highest-scoring match in T20 history with a record-breaking win over Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
The home team set a new IPL record with 277-3, but Mumbai put up a fierce battle in the chase and ended up trailing by 31 runs at 246-5.
It was little consolation, but they contributed a new record of 523 runs, surpassing the previous record of 517 set by South Africa and West Indies a year and a day ago.
The match ended with 38 sixes, setting a record for the most batting in a T20 match.
Australia opener Travis Head got off to an explosive start for Sunrisers with 62 off 24 balls, Abhishek Sharma contributed 63 off 23 balls balls, but it was South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen who became the star, blasting 80 off 34 balls, including seven sixes and four fours.
Aiden Markram’s unbeaten 42-run knock with a strike rate of 150 helped Sunrisers surpass Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 2013 record against Pune Warriors The best record in IPL with 263 wins and 5 losses.
Mumbai started off at a blistering pace, scoring 56 points in the first 19 balls.
They maintained the pace for long periods of time – reaching 150 in the 10th over – but all five batsmen were caught as they tried in vain to match the huge asking rate.
