Baghdad / NinaSouth Africa submitted an urgent request today, Tuesday, to the International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding the attack that Israel threatens on the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
Reuters reported that the South African government asked the International Court to consider whether Israel’s decision to extend its military operations in Rafah required the court to use its authority to prevent further violations of Palestinian rights.
Israel plans to expand its ground attack to the city of Rafah, which houses approximately 1.3 million refugees, in addition to its population, amid international fears that the attack will lead to a global catastrophe.
On January 26, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take measures to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians and improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, but the decision did not include a “ceasefire.”
The decision was issued during a session held by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, to decide on a lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel on charges of “genocide.”/End 9
