German media revealed that a member of the Albanian national team’s coaching staff raped a girl at the mission’s residence during participation in the European Cup “Euro 2024”, while the police refused to arrest him and he left Germany.
The Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper reported on Wednesday that a member of the Albanian national team’s coaching staff raped an employee at the hotel where the team stayed during the Euro 2024 tournament in the kitchen, forcing her into the dishwasher and sexually assaulting her on June 23.
She continued: The incident was reported directly to the police by one of the victim’s colleagues at the hotel, and the Dortmund Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed at the time that an investigation had been opened into the incident.
Despite the charge, the defendant left Germany the day after his country’s team was eliminated in the first round late last month, while a spokeswoman for the Dortmund prosecutor’s office told Bild newspaper that no arrest warrant had been requested for the man.
The Albanian Football Federation quickly intervened and revealed that it had suspended the man from work, noting that he was neither a player nor a senior official.
Albania bid farewell to the European Championship “Euro 2024” after obtaining a point from a draw with Croatia, while losing to Italy and Spain.
