EXCLUSIVE: Ross Butler and Marc Evan Jackson are among the newly-announced cast joining Sayani Gupta (Delhi Crime) in Arya.
The film, which is written and directed by Neil Tuli, follows Arya (Gupta), a disciplined piano teacher from a prestigious Indian conservatory. Per the synopsis, she reluctantly takes an assignment in northern Minnesota, hoping to rescue a struggling band program, as well as fuel her career ambitions back home.
Cameras are rolling on the indie pic, which has now rounded out its cast with Adi Roy (Unaccustomed Earth), Kyra Leroux (Firefly Lane), Arjun Gupta (The Magicians), Sari Lennick (A Serious Man), Rita Wolf (My Beautiful Laundrette) and Iqbal Theba (Glee).
They are joined by newcomer Maddox Anaya, and Alan Sparhawk, best known as a musician and member of indie rock band Low.
Butler’s credits include appearances in the Netflix franchise To All the Boys and the streamer’s original series 13 Reasons Why. As well as starring, he will be an exec producer on the movie, as is Gupta. He is repped by UTA.
Jackson is best known for playing Kevin on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Shawn on The Good Place, and attorney Trevor Nelsson on Parks & Recreation. He is repped by BRS/Gage and 3Arts
Arya is Tuli’s feature directorial debut. It is produced under his American Haathi banner. The movie is currently shooting on location in Minnesota.
It marks a U.S. feature film debut for Indian star Gupta. She is repped by Matt Kniaz at Crimson Media and Suchir Batra with Zero Gravity Management.
