Baghdad / Nina/ Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed developments in Gaza, affirmed their rejection of the displacement of Palestinians, and warned against any operation in Rafah with its disastrous consequences.
The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, said that the meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Major General Abbas Kamel, Head of General Intelligence, Philip Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, and Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, discussed many international and regional issues. With a focus on developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip, Al-Sisi reviewed the intensified efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire, exchange detainees, and implement sufficient humanitarian aid to relieve those afflicted in the Strip, whether by land in coordination with the relevant UN agencies, or through air drops, especially to areas North of the sector.
In this regard, Sisi appreciated Guterres’ positions on the ongoing crisis, his keenness to adhere to the principles of international law and international humanitarian law, and his continued activity to urge the international community to take action to end the war and protect civilians, stressing the need for the Security Council to assume its responsibilities, and stressing the danger of some countries cutting off their support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. Palestinian refugees “UNRWA”, in what is considered collective punishment of innocent Palestinians.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his great appreciation for Egypt’s regional role as a pivotal pillar of stability, praising the Egyptian efforts to push for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and Egypt’s keenness to keep the Rafah land port open continuously over the past months since the start of the current crisis, noting To his visit yesterday to the crossing, and in this context, he praised the huge Egyptian effort he saw to lead and manage the process of delivering aid to the people of Gaza, despite the severe obstacles and difficulties that this process faces, stressing the necessity of a ceasefire for humanitarian purposes so that aid can be entered and distributed in a manner Effective on the people of the Strip../End 9
