The Rapid Support Forces denied, on Wednesday, its involvement in the attack that targeted a military base in eastern Sudan, coinciding with the visit of army commander Abdel Fattah Burhan.
Mohamed Mukhtar, legal advisor to the commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, told Reuters that “the support has no connection to the two drones that targeted the city of Jebeit” in eastern Sudan on Wednesday.
At least five soldiers were killed in the attack, which occurred while Burhan was attending a graduation ceremony for students from the military college there.
Sky News Arabia quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the attack carried out by two drones led to the interruption of television broadcasts and caused a state of terror and chaos at the celebration site, after which Burhan was evacuated to the city of Port Sudan, which is about 120 kilometers away from the area.
The army announced “confronting two hostile drones that targeted the site of the celebration of the graduation of batches from the military, air and naval colleges after its conclusion” in the Jabit camp in eastern Sudan.
The army added: “The accident resulted in the death of 5 people and minor injuries that are being counted.”
