The Ministry of Water Resources announced today, Thursday, that rainwater quantities have strengthened the reservoir systems in Anbar, while indicating that it will continue to remove violations and work to develop the river banks within the governorate.

The Ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it is “ready to receive the flood waves coming into the Euphrates River in Anbar Governorate, starting from Al-Qaim District down to the front of the Haditha Dam, and to exploit them to enhance the strategic storage and benefit from it in the next summer season.”
The Director of Resources in Anbar Governorate, Jamal Odeh Samir, confirmed – according to the statement – that “the engineering and technical personnel were able to store large quantities of rainwater in the reservoir systems and lakes located on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers,” adding, “In cooperation with the ministry’s formations in Anbar Governorate, the Flood waves as a result of recent rains were diverted to the front of the Haditha Dam, Fallujah Dam, and Ramadi Dam, to supply agricultural lands with water shares, make the agricultural plan successful for the current winter season, and enhance the water storage in Haditha Dam Lake.”
Samir continued, “According to the quantities of water received to the governorate, large quantities were released from the Ramadi Dam towards the Fallujah Dam down to the southern governorates, and the water quotas determined by the Ministry were distributed among all the governorates.”
He stated, “The staff is continuing a campaign to dredge rivers and streams in all districts and districts of the governorate,” noting that “the directorate, in coordination with the local government in Anbar Governorate, is seeking to obtain financial allocations for the year 2024 and determine a strategic plan to improve the irrigation and water situation and raise the efficiency of irrigation in the governorate.”
Samir pointed out that “the directorate is working to develop the river banks within the governorate, in cooperation with the Ramadi municipality, and to create a corniche from the back of Ramadi Dam to Al-Bu’itha Bridge, with a length of 6 km and within the allocations for the development of the regions, in addition to launching a campaign to cleanse the sewer networks, with an estimated amount of 600 km in length, to conduct water.” Rainfall to the Euphrates River Basin, as well as the backside of the Al-Warar system, with a length of 10 km, in cooperation with the Directorate of Maintenance of Irrigation and Drain Projects and under the supervision of the Public Water Authority of dams and reservoirs in the governorate.
He stressed, “The Directorate continues to remove violations of all kinds, especially fish lakes created in violation of irrigation projects due to their wasting large amounts of water, and in cooperation with the Ministry’s formations in the governorate, the security forces, and the electricity departments in the governorate,” pointing out that “the teams working in groundwater are working to dig Wells in desert areas and farmers in those areas adopting modern irrigation methods and exploiting rainwater to grow wheat and barley and fuel the economic and commercial wheel of Anbar Governorate and the country in general.”
