The Ministry of Water Resources announced, on Thursday, that the amounts of rainwater have strengthened the reservoir systems in Anbar.
The Ministry stated in a statement received by Al-Rasheed that it is “ready to receive the flood waves coming into the Euphrates River in Anbar Governorate, starting from Al-Qaim district down to the front of the Haditha Dam, and exploit them to enhance the strategic storage and benefit from it in the next summer season.”
The Director of Resources in Anbar, Jamal Odeh Samir, confirmed, according to the statement, that “the engineering and technical personnel were able to store large quantities of rainwater in the reservoir systems and lakes located on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.”
He added, “In cooperation with the Ministry’s formations in Anbar Governorate, the flood waves resulting from the recent rains were channeled and transferred to the front of Haditha Dam, Fallujah, and Ramadi Dam, to supply agricultural lands with water quotas, make the agricultural plan successful for the current winter season, and enhance the water storage in Haditha Dam Lake.”
He added, “According to the quantities of water received to the governorate, large quantities were released from the Ramadi Dam towards the Fallujah Dam down to the southern governorates, and the water quotas determined by the Ministry were distributed among all the governorates.”
Samir explained, “The cadres are continuing a campaign to dredge rivers and streams throughout the districts and districts of the governorate,” noting, “The directorate, in coordination with the local government in Anbar Governorate, seeks to obtain financial allocations for the year 2024 and determine a strategic plan to advance the irrigation and water situation and raise the efficiency of irrigation in the governorate.”
He pointed out that “the directorate is working to develop the river banks within the governorate, in cooperation with the Ramadi municipality, and to create a corniche from the back of Ramadi Dam to Al-Bu’itha Bridge, with a length of 6 km and within the allocations for regional development, in addition to launching a campaign to cleanse drainage networks, with an estimated amount of 600 km in length, for the drainage of rainwater.” To the Euphrates River Basin, as well as the creek of the backside of the Al-Warar system, with a length of 10 km, in cooperation with the Directorate of Maintenance of Irrigation and Drain Projects and under the supervision of the Public Water Authority for dams and reservoirs in the governorate.
The director of resources in Anbar confirmed that “the directorate continues to remove violations of all kinds, especially fish lakes established in violation of irrigation projects due to their wasting large amounts of water, and in cooperation with the ministry formations in the governorate, the security forces, and the electricity departments in the governorate,” pointing out that “the teams working in the water Groundwater is working to dig wells in desert areas and encourage farmers in those areas to adopt modern irrigation methods and exploit rainwater to grow wheat and barley and support the economic and commercial wheel of Anbar Governorate and the country in general.
