Baghdad/Nina/The Qatari team was crowned champion of the 2023 Asian Nations Cup for the second time in a row, by defeating its Jordanian counterpart, 3-1, in the match that brought them together, today, Saturday, at “Lusail Stadium.”
All the goals of Qatar, which achieved the second title in a row after winning the 2019 title, in the match came from penalty kicks. Akram Afif, the team’s star, succeeded in converting them into goals to score a hat-trick during the match, as the first goal came in the 21st minute.
In the second half, Yazan Al-Naimat scored the equalizer for the Jordanian national team in the 67th minute, before Akram Afif scored the second and third goals for Annabi from two other penalty kicks in the 73rd and 95th minutes, respectively.
Akram Afif became the first player to score in the final of the Asian Nations Cup in two consecutive historical editions (2019, 2023), and he also scored his eighth goal in the Asian Cup to be crowned the tournament’s top scorer.”
The Qatar national team succeeded in winning the 2023 Asian Cup, which was held on its home soil and among its fans, retaining the title for the second edition in a row, joining the list of teams that succeeded in maintaining their title in two successive editions.
