The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced, on Saturday, the neutralization of two members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the seizure of a large quantity of weapons and ammunition in northern Iraq.
The ministry noted, in a statement, that the two elements were neutralized between the villages of Darkala and Miska, in northern Iraq.
She pointed out that the party’s elements, who “had no place left to escape,” set fire to forests to hide in villages they occupied in northern Iraq, and even burned down Darkala completely.
The ministry said the elements endangered the lives of innocent civilians by blowing up ammunition depots in Darkala and Miska, and booby-trapping evacuated villages around the operational areas.
She added that Turkish commandos continue to comb homes seized by PKK elements from innocent civilians in Derkala and Miska.
The ministry stressed that Turkish forces do not enter populated civilian areas, and take the utmost caution to avoid damaging orchards and property belonging to citizens.
She pointed out that the work of removing explosives from the houses that were booby-trapped by the party’s elements is being carried out with great precision.
She added that it was found that the party’s elements also used innocent civilians in other villages as human shields and booby-trapped their homes and orchards with explosives.
The Turkish Defense Ministry stated that a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and equipment was seized during the combing operations in Derkala, in addition to neutralizing two terrorists between Derkala and Miska.
