The Pentagon said on Wednesday that the total amount of the new US military aid package to Ukraine will be $2.35 billion, which will include withdrawing weapons from US warehouses worth $150 million and $2.2 billion to purchase new weapons.
The Pentagon said in a statement: “The Department of Defense today announced an additional security assistance package to meet Ukraine’s urgent security and military needs, including a $150 million Presidential Withdrawal Authorization package to provide Ukraine with critical capabilities.”
He added, “The Department of Defense is announcing a massive package of air defense missiles using approximately $2.2 billion in funding from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, and this money will be allocated to purchasing missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.”
The statement explained that the weapons, equipment and ammunition included in the new aid package include Hawk air defense systems, HIMARS ammunition, Javelin and TOW anti-tank missiles, and others.
Earlier today, US President Joe Biden ordered $150 million in military aid to Ukraine, according to an order issued by the White House to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
