On Monday evening, civil defense teams in Diwaniyah took control of the fire incident that broke out behind the Maternity and Children’s Hospital and led to the burning of one of the halls, while Governor Maytham Al-Shahd confirmed that the incident was limited to material damage only and that there were no human casualties.

The Director General of the Diwaniyah Governorate Health Department, Amer Mohsen Al-Khazali, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The fire resulted from burning waste behind the Maternity and Children’s Hospital, which forced us to evacuate the lying patients, including children and women, to Imam Hussein Hospital (peace be upon him) due to the entry of smoke.” To the halls as a precaution.”
He added, “The operating theaters were opened at the Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital to receive emergency cases, childbirth, and perform urgent operations as an alternative location for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital following the fire.”
He continued, “There is a specialized female staff to provide all medical, nursing, and health services.”
