He added, “The most important projects that have been activated by the government are gas investment contracts with a capacity of 600 million standard cubic feet with Total Energies SE, which are in two stages, each stage 300 million standard cubic feet per day, in addition to concluding an investment contract.” Gas from the Nahran Bin Omar field in Basra Governorate, where the first phase will be 150 million standard cubic feet per day, and the second phase will also be in the same quantity.
He continued, “Total is working to invest gas from 5 oil fields,” noting that “the most important benefits of these contracts are the transformation of gas into clean energy to supply electric power stations, petrochemical and fertilizer factories, and all gas-related industries, enhancing national production, and reducing pollution.” “Environmental.”
He pointed out, “There is activation of the fifth licensing round, which includes a number of fields in oil and gas sites, which is expected to add up to 1,000 million standard cubic feet per day to national production.”
He pointed out, “International companies were invited to invest to develop a number of oil and gas sites and fields within the annex of the fifth licensing round. International companies were also invited to invest and develop a number of sites and exploratory patches with gaseous hydrocarbon compositions, which could add new quantities to national production.” .
He stated, “His ministry is in the stage of receiving companies’ offers for the fifth and sixth licensing rounds, and after completing the contract-concluding stage, we can talk about the expectations for these rounds.”
He stressed, “The Ministry of Oil worked to invest gas in all oil fields, especially in southern Iraq, namely the governorates of Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar,” which are the governorates that constitute the main weight in national production.
He continued, “It is expected that new quantities of gas will be added to the national production during the current year 2024, from the following projects:
1- Gas investment project from the Halfaya field, which will add approximately 300 million standard cubic feet per day to national production.
2- A gas investment project from the Nasiriyah and Al-Gharaf fields in Dhi Qar Governorate, with a capacity of 200 million standard cubic feet per day, as part of this project is expected to enter approximately (70) cubic meters into production during this year 2024.
3- The Basra Gas Company’s projects will add up to 200 million standard cubic feet per day, meaning its production will be around 1,200 million standard cubic feet per day, and this company invests gas from 3 oil fields in southern Iraq.”
He pointed out, “The current year 2024 will witness the addition of quantities of gas, and thus the above-mentioned projects will add their production successively to the national production,” adding, “The Ministry has asked international companies to accelerate the completion of projects and reduce time in development operations.”
He stressed, “Achieving self-sufficiency in gas is one of the most important goals of the government and the ministry, through the important projects mentioned above, in addition to working to attract international companies to develop the Okaz and Mansouriya fields.”
He stated, “Projects in the Okaz and Mansouriya fields were suspended, and international companies withdrew from them, after the areas in which those fields were located were exposed to ISIS terrorist gangs.”
He pointed out that “the operation of part of the Okaz field was carried out through a national effort, as the ministry seeks to attract international companies to develop these fields, which are called free gas fields located in the ground.”
