De jaarlijkse griepepidemie heeft Europa dit jaar opvallend vroeg getroffen, ongeveer vier weken eerder dan in voorgaande seizoenen. De vroege start in combinatie met een nieuwe virusvariant zet de gezondheidszorg in verschillende landen onder grote druk. Daarvoor waarschuwt de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) woensdag.
