Baghdad / Nina / Newspapers published in Baghdad today, Thursday, February 15, focused on expanding economic partnerships with Saudi Arabia, investment cooperation with Egypt, arming and developing the Iraqi army… and other issues, including foreign companies managing Iraqi hospitals.
Al-Zawraa newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, is concerned with expanding economic partnerships with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
It focused, with prominent headlines on its front page, on Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani discussing with the Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the prospects for cooperation and expanding economic partnerships between the two countries.
Al-Zawraa referred to the Prime Minister’s expression of Iraq’s welcome to the entry of Saudi companies into the Iraqi market, in which many great investment opportunities are available today, and his emphasis on the importance of coordination in positions and congruence of visions regarding regulating the energy market and oil prices under the umbrella of OPEC. “In order to ensure the preservation of the stability of energy markets in the region and the world, and the interests of producing and consuming countries.”
The newspaper reported that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received a delegation of Egyptian businessmen and investors, specialized in infrastructure projects, the housing sector, and the pharmaceutical industry.
Al-Sudani was quoted as confirming that Iraq is keen to sustain bilateral cooperation relations with Egypt and its private sector, and to expand its horizons in various fields.
As for Al-Sabah newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Media Network, it focused on arming the Iraqi army, developing it, and providing it with the latest technological equipment.
In this regard, she said: “The Iraqi army is one of the armies that quickly recovered and made a big difference through the achievements recorded on the ground in expelling and fighting terrorism, as well as perpetuating the momentum of the battles against terrorism in its various intelligence, military, psychological and media aspects.”
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Waad Qaddo, said in a statement to the newspaper: “Until now, the armament of the Iraqi army has not been at the required level, and this requires special attention to this file.”
He added: “We must work to modernize and purchase modern weapons from multiple origins of different types and provide them to the members of the Iraqi army.”
While security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: “There is a need to modernize air defense armament, and that there is a need to contract to purchase air force radars and detectors to keep pace with the challenges.”
Abu Ragheef said: “The Iraqi sky is almost exposed – to some extent – to all the countries of the region and the coalition forces, and we need advanced radars and a high-precision air defense system, and that the armament be at a high level commensurate with the technological scale with which the armies of the developed countries of the world are armed.”
In another matter, Al-Zaman newspaper followed the direction of the Ministry of Health to hand over the management of the new hospitals to international companies.
She referred to what the Minister of Health, Saleh Al-Hasnawi, said: “The Ministry contracted with an Italian company to implement the first contract for the management of Najaf Teaching Hospital, which is the first among a total of six contracts.”
Al-Hasnawi added: “This project represents a first experience of partnership between the foreign private sector and the government public sector,” noting: “The Ministries of Health and Planning have set out to create new standard documents related to this matter, with the approval of the Prime Minister.”
The Minister of Health referred, according to the newspaper, to the agreement to begin developing the Najaf Teaching Hospital, with regard to operation and maintenance, in accordance with those documents and negotiations, which continued for a long time.
Al-Hasnawi confirmed: “Hospital management contracts will be completed within the next week,” noting the agreement with Italian, Qatari and Turkish companies, and contracting with an Italian company regarding the Najaf Teaching Hospital contract, and referring another hospital to a Turkish company, and the contract will be signed next week, as for the rest of the hospitals.
