Netflix is partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) for the international theatrical distribution of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew next year.
SPE will release the film in cinemas worldwide on February 12, 2027, before it lands on Netflix on April 2, giving it a seven-week theatrical window.
SPE will report the international box office figures.
Previews of the film will begin on February 10 in Imax. Netflix confirmed it will handle the wide North American release, in major chains as well as regional and independent venues.
It is the latest extension of the Netflix-Sony partnership, with the companies already collaborating on a global Pay-1 licensing deal under which SPE’s feature films stream on Netflix worldwide following their full theatrical and home entertainment windows.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is the first film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ 1955 novel The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth of seven novels in The Chronicles Of Narnia fantasy series and a prequel to the narrative.
Newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell lead the cast alongside Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.
The film is produced by Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Vincent Sieber-Smith, and Gerwig, with executive producers Patricia Whitcher and Douglas Gresham and Melvin Adams for the C. S. Lewis Estate.
“Greta’s Narnia is exactly the kind of bold, ambitious filmmaking we love to champion,” said Dan Lin, chairman of Netflix Film. “While most of our films debut on Netflix, sometimes a film like this comes along and we can give the filmmaker a different canvas and fans a theatrical experience that complements its Netflix release.”
