Elon Musk said he plans to contribute $45 a month starting in July to a super PAC dedicated to electing Donald Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported.
According to Bloomberg, the technology billionaire who supported Trump two days ago has donated a so-called “significant” amount of money to the U.S. Pacific Action Committee, but the actual donation amount will not be announced in election documents until July 15.
Both news outlets’ reports on Musk’s donation were based on accounts from unnamed people familiar with the plans of the tech billionaire, who has an estimated net worth of $252 billion and is the world’s richest person one.
The Wall Street Journal reported that if Musk fulfilled a donation of this size, it would be “an extraordinary amount of money,” citing the largest known donation so far in the 2024 cycle, to supporters of Trump. Super PAC contributed $50 million.
Musk had not donated to Super Pacific as of June 30, according to a review of records by The New York Times.
According to the New York Times, America Pac has received support from some of Musk’s friends and allies in the tech world, including Joe Lonsdale, his primary political tie with Trump’s newly appointed vice president Donor Peter Thiel co-founded the software company Palantir.
The Winklevoss twins, cryptocurrency entrepreneurs who have attacked Joe Biden for waging a war on cryptocurrencies through regulation, also reportedly contributed to the effort, according to The Wall Street Journal. In June, they praised Trump for being “pro-Bitcoin, pro-cryptocurrency, pro-business.”
