Just back from summer break, and the C-suite merry-go-round has already resumed. Christian Dior Couture has appointed Benedetta Petruzzo, CEO of Miu Miu, as managing director. She will take up the role on 15 October, reporting to Delphine Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of Dior.
“I am convinced that Benedetta’s talent and leadership will be major assets in the continued development of Dior’s activities and its international influence,” Arnault said in a statement.
Petruzzo will succeed Charles Delapalme, who joined Dior in 2018 and has been managing director since February 2023. “Following a transition period, Charles Delapalme will take on important new responsibilities within the LVMH Group, which will be announced at a later date,” the statement reads. Petruzzo’s successor at Miu Miu has yet to be named, according to the Prada Group.
Petruzzo, who is not yet 40, joined Miu Miu in 2020 as general manager and was promoted to CEO in March 2023. During her time at the helm, Miu Miu has enjoyed tremendous momentum, defying the luxury downturn. In the first half of 2024, sales rose 93 per cent year-on-year — a standout feat in the current environment — and Miu Miu is currently on its way to reaching €1 billion in annual sales for full year 2024. Before Miu Miu, Petruzzo spent five years at Kering Eyewear, latterly as executive VP of Kering Eyewear USA.
With Dior, she joins a megabrand. Christian Dior Couture’s sales reached €9.5 billion in 2023, according to HSBC estimates, making it LVMH’s second largest brand after Louis Vuitton. But the group’s fashion business isn’t immune to the wider industry slowdown. In the second quarter of 2024, growth in the LVMH fashion and leather goods division slowed to 1 per cent.
“Her expertise in the luxury market will persist in enhancing the desirability and success of Dior. Together, with the excellence of the teams in place, we will carry on building the future and strengthening our organisation,” Arnault said.
