Today, Friday, Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, directed the formation of a team to investigate the causes of fish deaths in Al-Huwaizeh Marsh.
A statement by the ministry received by Al-Rasheed stated that “based on what was circulated on social media about the death of fish in the Al-Huwaiza Marsh – Al-Dub Stream, the minister directed the formation of a team to conduct an immediate inspection from the Director of Water Resources and the Director of the Maysan Marsh Projects Department, with the attendance of representatives of the Environment Department and the Agriculture Department in the governorate.”
He added, “We went to the site and it turned out that the Doub Stream is a natural stream that extends 12 km in length, with a water depth of between 2 and 3 meters and a width of between 75 and 150 meters. It was noted that the fish deaths occurred in a specific part of the stream, and qualitative tests were conducted on the water by specialists, and the results of the dissolved oxygen ratio and the salt ratio were within the normal rates of the water in which fish live.”
He added, “Most of the dead fish are of the catfish type, known locally as the ‘Jari’ fish. Samples of the dead fish were taken by the Fisheries and Veterinary Department to conduct accurate examinations to determine the causes of death.”
